In today's world, it can be hard to feel truly happy and at ease. Maybe you set a big goal for yourself, like a New Year's Resolution, and you either didn't reach it or you did but still felt empty inside. You're not the only one!
We often look for happiness in things outside of ourselves. Getting a promotion, reaching a fitness goal, or achieving something big can feel amazing, but it's easy to feel let down if that's all we focus on. We might even lose motivation if we don't also take care of our inner selves.

As we make our resolutions and look at our goals for the year, we should also look at growing spiritually. You've probably heard the saying "I have all the answers within me." This means that true happiness comes from within us.
One way to connect with ourselves is to practice "good night blessings." These aren't just for religious people. They're a simple way to show gratitude and set intentions for the day ahead.
In this article, we'll explore the benefits of good night blessings, learn how to write your own, and even look at some examples.
If you're looking for a way to connect with yourself and the world around you, this is a great place to start!
What are Good Night Blessings, and What are their Benefits?
Have you ever said a prayer before bed? If so, you might be familiar with the idea of good night blessings, even if you didn't call them that!
My friend used to say prayers as a kid, but she drifted away from her spiritual practices as an adult. Lately, she's been trying to reconnect with her spiritual journey. She started creating her own "good night blessings," which are like personalized prayers.
She finds it helps her feel more grounded and in tune with her beliefs.
Why are Good Night Blessings Helpful? They help you:
Find Balance: They can help you feel more centered and calm at the end of the day.
Show Gratitude: They encourage you to appreciate the good things that happened during the day.
Find Closure: They can help you let go of worries and prepare for a good night's sleep. 1
Personalize Your Journey: You can create blessings that match your own beliefs and values. These don't always have to be religious, and they can change as you grow and learn.
Good night blessings are also a great way to feel connected to the physical and spiritual world around us. Now that we’ve touched on the benefits, let's explore some ways to create meaningful good night blessings for yourself.
How to Write a Unique Good Night Blessing
Ready to discover how to craft good night blessings that truly reflect your unique journey? Here's how:
1. Choose Who You're Addressing:
Find the right words: Who are you talking to? "God" might feel right for some, but others might prefer "Universe,” “Friend,” or a specific deity.
Make it personal: Choose something that feels comfortable and connects you deeply.
2. Connect to What Matters:
Think about your connections: What makes you feel grounded? Is it family, nature, music?
Find symbolic words: For example, if nature connects you, think of words like "land," "sea," and "air."
3. Set Your Intention:
What do you hope to achieve? Do you want to sleep peacefully? Feel refreshed?
What energy do you want to put out? For example: "My intention is to end the day with gratitude so I can sleep peacefully and be ready for tomorrow."
4. Express Gratitude:
Find things to be thankful for: Each night, reflect on things you're grateful for. It could be big or small!
Keep it mindful: Don't rush through it. Take time to truly appreciate the good things in your day.
5. Reinforce Your Intention & Close:
Close your good night blessing with a positive affirmation: Briefly restate your intention and close in a way that feels best for you. For example: "May I sleep peacefully and wake refreshed. Blessed be."
Note: you might feel comfortable saying “amen” or even a more casual “good night.” I’ve even heard some humorous ones where the person signs off with “hanging up now, love ya.” It is whatever works best for you and the point you are at in your spiritual journey!
Writing Your Blessing:
Your blessing can be simple or poetic. Here are three examples based on the ideas above:
Idea 1: Simple Nightly Changing Template
[Spiritual Entitiy],
I thank you for this day. I am grateful for [mention 1-2 specific things you are grateful for, e.g., my family, my health, a good meal]. Please help me sleep peacefully tonight so I may awake refreshed.
[Closing phrase.]
Idea 2: Good Night Blessing Spoken Letter
Dear Universe - to the land, the sea, the air - I release the day's worries and embrace peaceful sleep. I am thankful for the warmth of my bed, the love of my family, and the beauty of the sunset. May I wake refreshed and ready for the love and joy in tomorrow. Blessed be.
Option 2: Short Poem for a Good Night Blessing
The day is done, and its light fades low, I thank you now, for all I know. For warmth and love, for food and rest, I lay my head, and feel blessed.
Guide me through the hours unseen, May peaceful dreams forever glean. And with the dawn, a brand new start - A grateful mind, a joyful heart. So shall it be.
3 Tips and Reminders to Get the Most Out of Your Good Night Blessings
Good night blessings don’t have to be perfect, it just has to be “you.” I provided the process and template above to get you started but if you feel called to a different way, follow it. Remember, you have all the answers within you!
You can change up your good night blessings as different experiences and feelings come into your life. Just as you will grow and evolve, so can your blessings.
Say your good night blessings nightly. Consistency is key and you will find its benefits are strongest when practiced each day.
